2014 was a year dominated by news stories about the war between two consoles: Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4.
The competition between these two systems dominated the conversation last year. Gamers and game writers alike tuned in eagerly to see which console would win the NPD sales fight each month, and by and large the answer was always the PS4.
We also analyzed to death which system had better graphics, better exclusives, better marketing campaigns, and so on and so forth. This was the birth of a new front in the console wars, though certainly the shape of things now could change drastically in 2015.
But neither the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One earns the Best Console of 2014 award. That honor goes to a slightly older, much less-discussed, and still commercially disappointing Nintendo Wii U.
